BRIDGEWATER LOADING DOCK
Faced with a poorly oriented, a collapsing loading dock, and an elevator motor room filled with water and debris, Building Manager Buskirk called Doak Engineering Design, PC for help. He wanted a redesigned loading dock and guidance as to whether to retain the basement space below the dock or backfill it.
After some preliminary evaluations and investigations, we recommended the they sprinkler and sprinkler water connection pipes be relocated and the basement space be portioned from the remainder of the elevator room with a concrete wall and the space below the dock be backfilled. Additionally, we recommended that the loading dock be reoriented and supported by a beam and footing to avoid having the relocate an existing drainage structure, thus avoiding a costly extension of the scope of work.
