The Vestal Volunteer Emergency Squad, Inc. (VVES) serves an area of 53 square miles.  They operate out of one station that primarily serves a rural area.  They are a public department whose members are a combination of paid employees and volunteers. The Town of Vestal does not financially support the VVES.

The VVES grew out of their outdated facility at the same address and needed a new facility.  The bedrooms were located above the emergency vehicles making it very difficult to sleep.  The meeting room/lounge was undersized and inadequate for training or social functions.  The garage floor was cold and made it difficult to service the vehicles in the winter.

Seeking to address the facility needs in as cost-effective manner as possible, Town Engineer Gary Campo teamed up VVES personnel, and Doak Engineering Design, PC to create the construction plans and specifications.

VVES Personnel requested that the following elements be included in the new facility:

• Four (4) doors w/ 64’ deep bays and hydronic in-floor heating
• Training room
• Three (3) offices
• Communications room
• Two (2) dressing rooms w/separate bathrooms, shower rooms & bedrooms
• A lounge area with open kitchen
• A back second floor deck

Doak Engineering Design, PC included all the requested design elements in the final construction documents.  Mr. Campo managed the construction project.  To my knowledge, the building was constructed on schedule and within budget.
